I was talking with one of my friends who had recently changed jobs. I asked her if she liked her new job and this was her response:
“It’s a job….”
You can’t catch the tone of voice or the expression that she had when she said this but it was as if the very idea of job meant pain.
Is this true? Should you be satisfied in your job or should you just suck it up and work?
For me, your job should be a place where you utilize your strengths to become a solution to problems. The bigger the problem you solve; the more money you make. And since a life built around your strengths actually leaves you feeling fulfilled.
Yes…you should feel satisfied by your job!!!
The only thing you do more of during your week is sleep! So if your job is making you miserable then it is going to leak into the rest of your life.
So how do you find satisfaction in your job?
I think the first thing you need to do is find out your personal strengths. When I help people discover their personal strengths I use an online assessment that nearly 3 million people have used. When you’re done taking this 30 minute assessment it provides you with your 5 signature strengths.
Then I help them discover where they actually utilize these strengths at their job.
After that we try to figure out ways to steer their job towards those strengths on a daily basis.
